Shanghai World Expo
Watercolors and pencils
This creation is not for sale. It is the original copy of a plan of the Shanghai World Expo of 2010 (a first in China), an event that will definitively tip Shanghai into the era of Western modernity. Elyn knew how to put her art and technique at the service of a major state project. This plan will be published in 100 million copies. This professional experience will lead to her departure from China, convinced that she no longer had any space of freedom, of capacity to express her creativity, within the limits of a company where everything was organized to channel creation.
The empty spaces that can be seen on this map have since been colonized by the tentacles of this constantly expanding city.
France was the first country to respond to China's requests. The architect Jacques Ferrier benefited from an exceptional location of 6000 m2.
Elyn's final act of cartographic creation will be the production of a tourist guide to Shanghai (In-Shanghai) in which the artist's vision and gesture are perfectly illustrated.
