Heaven in Hell

oil painting

38x54 cm

Dreaming of paradise, fleeing hell: this is the impulse that consumes the human soul every day. Yet, deep within us, it is hell that rumbles too often. Greed, hatred, jealousy, ignorance and resentment, these sharp blades, effortlessly tear apart the deepest love. Paradise and hell are not mirages of this world: they are the convulsions of a wavering spirit, incapable of silencing the bitter words and sadness that gnaw at it. In a single day, this earthly purgatory trembles under incessant shocks. We have all experienced it, and it hits us with a brutal truth: paradise and hell are only two sides of the same coin.

Elyn painted this canvas to eternity engrave her first love in France, a tormented passion with a man with a complex and painful sentimental past. Her heart, this traitor, missed a beat every day, sometimes every hour, as if it were staggering on the edge of the abyss. She needed time to chase away the demons of hell, to dare to believe again in paradise, in peace of the soul, in the possibility of a happiness as sharp as a blade. But, cruel irony, this work, the fruit of her being, was torn away by the claws of a greedy thief, a vulture who devoured this pure light to plunge it into his darkness.
